Is lemon zest / rind low FODMAP?

The larger comparison portions are moderate at 325 g and high at 413 g because of fructans. Fructose, lactose, mannitol, sorbitol and GOS remain green. These unusually large zest quantities are reference points in the app, not suggested amounts to eat or add to a meal.

Lemon Zest / Rind and IBS: what to know

For an IBS-friendly recipe, zest can add a citrus note while keeping its amount easy to track. The green ingredient result does not validate everything else in a cake, dressing or marinade. Consider the portion of the finished recipe and the ingredients served alongside it.

Gut-friendly ways to eat lemon zest / rind

Grate the coloured outer rind into a small dish before mixing it through food. Note the total zest used and divide it across the servings. Orange zest offers another citrus flavour, with its own app entry; dried mandarin peel should not use fresh-zest measurements.

Frequently asked questions

Does zest of one lemon always weigh the same?

No. Lemon size and how deeply it is grated affect the yield. The checked low FODMAP weight is the more dependable reference.

Can I apply this to lemon extract?

No. Extracts and flavourings are different products; this page checks the rind itself.

Does the larger green-to-amber gap mean unlimited zest?

It does not establish an unlimited allowance. Use a culinary amount and keep the large app comparison servings in context.
