Broccoli Sprouts

TLDRLast updated 27 September 2026

Broccoli sprouts are low FODMAP at the Monash app's 75 g serving, approximately two-thirds of a cup. The entry also states that they remain low FODMAP up to 500 g; that describes the tested range, not a suggested serving. These young sprouts have their own entry, separate from mature broccoli heads and stalks.

The reference portion is 75 g, about two-thirds of a cup. The 500 g entry records the app's tested-range note, not a recommended intake.

Is broccoli sprouts low FODMAP?

All six FODMAP groups are green at 75 g in the broccoli-sprout entry checked in the app. A green result does not establish that a food contains no FODMAPs. Do not borrow the fructose guidance for broccoli stalks or the portions for broccoli heads: neither describes sprouts.

Broccoli Sprouts and IBS: what to know

For a sandwich or bowl topped with broccoli sprouts, record the amount of sprouts and what else was in the meal if you are tracking symptoms. The 500 g app note is not a reason to build up to a very large bowl, and a FODMAP rating does not predict every person's response. A mixed sprout packet also needs attention to the other sprout varieties on its label.

Gut-friendly ways to eat broccoli sprouts

Weigh the broccoli sprouts before adding them to a sandwich, omelette or grain bowl. Keep the packet so you can confirm that they are broccoli sprouts rather than a mixed sprout blend, and follow its storage and preparation instructions. When swapping sprouts for mature broccoli in a recipe, expect a different texture and check the guide for the vegetable actually used.

Frequently asked questions

How much broccoli sprout is low FODMAP?

The Monash entry lists 75 g, about two-thirds of a cup, as low FODMAP and includes a low-FODMAP range note up to 500 g. Use a portion that suits your meal rather than treating the upper tested amount as a target.

Are broccoli sprouts the same as broccoli florets?

No. Sprouts are the young sprouted plant; florets are the mature broccoli heads. The broccoli guide covers heads, while this page uses the separate sprout entry.

Can I use this guide for a mixed sprout packet?

Only the broccoli-sprout component is covered by this entry. Check the other varieties listed on a mixed packet instead of applying the broccoli-sprout rating to the whole blend.
