Breakdown for 0.67 cups
Is alfalfa (raw) low FODMAP?
Excess fructose is the group that becomes amber at 170 g, around 1½ cups, and red at 220 g, approximately two cups. The other five indicators stay green in those larger portions. Alfalfa therefore has a different limiting group from the GOS pattern in whole sprouted mung beans.
Alfalfa (Raw) and IBS: what to know
A small layer of alfalfa in a sandwich and a large bowl of sprouts represent different amounts. Weigh your alfalfa rather than relying on how tightly it fills a cup, and note the bread, spread and other fillings when tracking the meal. The 75 g result should not be treated as a rating for that whole sandwich.
Gut-friendly ways to eat alfalfa (raw)
Use the product's storage and preparation directions. Health Canada advises pregnant people, young children, older adults and people with weakened immunity to avoid raw sprouts and choose thoroughly cooked sprouts. That food-safety advice applies independently of the alfalfa FODMAP colour; the app check provides no cooked-weight conversion.
Frequently asked questions
Is a two-cup alfalfa portion low FODMAP?
The app's two-cup reference is 220 g and red for fructose. The smaller listed green amount is 75 g.
Is the limiting group in alfalfa GOS?
In the checked larger portions, fructose changes colour while GOS remains green. Sprout types should not be grouped under one assumed FODMAP profile.
Does the green rating make raw alfalfa suitable for everyone?
No. The raw-sprout handling advice is a separate consideration from the 75 g FODMAP result. See the food-safety source and preparation guidance above.
