Textured Vegetable Protein / TVP (Soy Protein Based)

TLDRLast updated 27 September 2026

Soy-protein-based textured vegetable protein, or TVP, is high FODMAP at the Monash app's listed 75 g serving. Its green portion is only 2 g, and 3 g is moderate. These small lower amounts make the green result very different from a typical mince-sized quantity.

Is textured vegetable protein / tvp (soy protein based) low FODMAP?

GOS is amber at 3 g; both GOS and fructans are red at 75 g. The words soy protein on a label are not enough to give all soy-based foods the same rating. Cooked soy-protein mince and soy-protein chicken strips are separate entries with their own portion results.

Textured Vegetable Protein / TVP (Soy Protein Based) and IBS: what to know

A 2 g reference may not be useful as the main ingredient of the meal you planned. During a period when you are choosing green servings, consider an alternative with an independently listed portion that works for the recipe. The very small green TVP amount should not encourage an assumption that a full TVP meal is low FODMAP.

Gut-friendly ways to eat textured vegetable protein / tvp (soy protein based)

Check the actual TVP product and its preparation instructions before using a serving figure. The visible app entry does not supply a dry-to-rehydrated conversion, so this guide does not invent one. If replacing TVP in a sauce with plain cooked mycoprotein mince, use that food's own entry and adjust the recipe for the change in ingredient.

Frequently asked questions

Is soy TVP low FODMAP in a normal mince-sized serving?

The listed 75 g serving is high. The green amount shown is 2 g, which should not be expanded to a bowl of prepared TVP.

Can I multiply the green portion after soaking TVP?

The checked entry does not establish a rehydration ratio or a new low-FODMAP allowance. Adding water does not justify inventing a different tested portion.

Does this result cover pea-based textured protein?

This entry specifically names soy-protein-based TVP. A product made from pea protein or another base requires its own evidence.
