Shiitake Mushroom (Dried)

TLDRLast updated 27 September 2026

Dried shiitake mushrooms are low FODMAP at 8 g, approximately two medium mushrooms, in the Monash app. Mannitol reaches a moderate level at 13 g and a high level at 15 g. These close portion points make the dried weight more useful than simply counting mushrooms.

Is shiitake mushroom (dried) low FODMAP?

Both the 13 g amber portion and the 15 g red portion are described as four medium shiitake. That overlap illustrates the limits of household estimates rather than two interchangeable allowances. Mannitol is the changing group; the remaining five indicators are green in the checked panels, and all six are green at 8 g.

Shiitake Mushroom (Dried) and IBS: what to know

When dried shiitake are added to a noodle soup or rice dish, record the dried amount assigned to your portion. A recipe containing several mushroom types needs more detail than its total mushroom weight. Compare dried porcini or dried black chanterelle using their own guides before substituting one for another.

Gut-friendly ways to eat shiitake mushroom (dried)

Measure the dried shiitake first, then rehydrate and cook according to the product instructions. Keep that original weight with the recipe so that a later batch is easier to compare. Neither the soaked mushroom weight nor the soaking water has a separate tested serving in this check. Adding water therefore does not provide a verified way to increase the dried allowance.

Frequently asked questions

Is four dried shiitake a low-FODMAP portion?

The app's four-medium estimates occur at 13 g amber and 15 g red. The green portion is 8 g, approximately two medium mushrooms, so use the weight instead of a fixed count.

Are fresh and dried shiitake interchangeable by weight?

This guide verifies dried shiitake only. Fresh mushrooms need their own entry; a dried gram amount should not be copied over to a different preparation.

Can I use the soaking liquid in a low-FODMAP recipe?

The checked panel does not separately rate shiitake soaking liquid. Follow the recipe and pack instructions, but do not label an amount of that liquid low FODMAP based on the dried mushroom table alone.
