Is red habanero chilli (whole, raw) low FODMAP?

The 11 g detail panel has six green FODMAP indicators. Fructose alone changes to amber at 28 g, about two and a half medium, and red at 38 g, about three and a half medium. Lactose, mannitol, sorbitol, GOS and fructans remain green through the inspected portions.

Red Habanero Chilli (Whole, Raw) and IBS: what to know

Habanero's green FODMAP portion is not a target for someone who struggles with spicy food. The app warns that capsaicin can trigger heartburn or abdominal pain in some people with IBS. You may prefer much less chilli, or none, based on your response to heat.

Gut-friendly ways to eat red habanero chilli (whole, raw)

For a shared salsa or marinade, record how much raw habanero goes into the recipe and how much of the finished recipe you eat. Keep its ingredients visible in your notes instead of recording only 'hot sauce'. Compare whole red chilli when the recipe calls for an unnamed red chilli rather than habanero.

Frequently asked questions

Is a spoonful of habanero sauce the same as raw habanero?

No. A sauce contains other ingredients and varying amounts of chilli. Its spoon weight cannot be substituted for the raw whole-chilli weights on this page.

Does the red colour mean habanero is high FODMAP?

The colour of the vegetable is not the traffic-light rating. The checked red habanero entry has a green portion at 11 g and higher fructose ratings at the larger listed weights.

Should I aim to eat one whole habanero?

The app's one-medium description is a size reference. It does not override your tolerance of spicy food or establish a useful amount for your recipe.
