Pearl Millet (Cooked)

TLDRLast updated 27 September 2026

Pearl millet is low FODMAP at 100 g cooked, approximately half a cup. It becomes moderate at 154 g and high at 184 g in the checked Monash entry. Fructans account for that larger-serving progression.

Serving sizes for pearl millet (cooked)

The app describes 154 g as three-quarters of a cup and 184 g as one cup. The volume descriptions are approximate, so their relationship is not an exact conversion rule for all cooked batches.

Is pearl millet (cooked) low FODMAP?

All six group indicators are green at the reference portion. Fructans alone turn amber at the middle amount and red at the high amount, while GOS and the other four groups remain green. The broad green range of foxtail millet should therefore not be transferred to pearl millet.

Pearl Millet (Cooked) and IBS: what to know

For IBS portion planning, a bowl described simply as millet can hide a useful variety distinction. Check the packet name and weigh the cooked pearl millet you serve. A green amount is a testing reference rather than a guarantee that an entire meal will cause no symptoms.

Gut-friendly ways to eat pearl millet (cooked)

Cook the grain as directed and portion it before mixing with vegetables or sauce. For a shared recipe, keep track of the cooked pearl-millet quantity and the portions it makes. If you use flour to make a flatbread or another food, seek a flour-specific entry instead of treating the cooked kernel weight as interchangeable.

Frequently asked questions

Is GOS the group that rises in pearl millet?

No. In the three panels inspected, GOS stays green and fructans are the changing indicator.

Does every millet have these same servings?

The app distinguishes varieties and preparations. Barnyard, foxtail and the Austrian kernel entry have their own references.

Should I weigh pearl millet before or after cooking?

After cooking, to match this entry. The inspected panels did not give an equivalent dry-grain weight.
