Orange Zest / Rind

TLDRLast updated 27 September 2026

Orange zest or rind is low FODMAP at 5 g, the app's reference for zest from one orange. All six FODMAP groups are green at that amount. It is a useful flavouring reference, distinct from a portion of whole orange or juice.

Serving sizes for orange zest / rind

The app associates 275 g with one cup and 350 g with 1⅓ cups. These household labels are approximate; they should not be used to calculate an exact gram weight for every spoonful of finely grated zest.

Is orange zest / rind low FODMAP?

The detailed panels also show 275 g as moderate and 350 g as high, with fructans alone changing colour. Those weights describe very large quantities of rind compared with the green flavouring portion. They are comparisons within the tested entry, not recommended serving sizes.

Orange Zest / Rind and IBS: what to know

When planning food around IBS, assess zest as one ingredient in the recipe. A little orange flavour does not make a sweetened dessert or breakfast product low FODMAP by itself. Keep track of other ingredients and the amount of the finished dish that you eat.

Gut-friendly ways to eat orange zest / rind

Measure the grated rind before folding it into suitable baking, porridge or a dressing. Distribute it evenly if the recipe serves several people. For a lemon variation, consult lemon zest; for a packaged baking ingredient, use the mixed citrus peel guide instead.

Frequently asked questions

Is orange juice covered by this low FODMAP result?

No. Juice and rind are different ingredients, and this check supplies no juice serving.

Does dried orange peel use the same weight?

A dried product has a different preparation. The fresh rind entry does not establish a dry-weight conversion or a dried-peel rating.

Can I replace mixed peel with zest in baking?

That is a recipe choice, but the ingredients differ in texture and composition. Assess the zest quantity separately instead of borrowing the mixed-peel portion.
