Macadamia Milk

TLDRLast updated 4 September 2026

A whole cup of macadamia milk, 250 ml, is rated green, and the profile behind that rating is blank: no GOS, no fructans, no excess fructose, no lactose, no sorbitol, no mannitol. Nearly every other carton on the plant milk shelf brings a small amount of something. This one brings nothing measurable, which makes it the sensible next thing to try when two or three others have gone badly.

Is macadamia milk low FODMAP?

In most nut milks the low reading is dilution doing the work: the nut brings GOS, water thins it out, and straining takes the solids away with the rest. Macadamia milk starts from a different place. The nut itself records no GOS whatever in a 40 g serve, so there is nothing there for blending to reduce, and the carton comes out empty across all six groups. That is why the tested amount here is a generous 250 ml rather than a cautious splash.

Macadamia Milk and IBS: what to know

An empty column is not a promise that the drink will suit you, and the difference matters when you are working out what went wrong. If macadamia milk still causes symptoms, the cause is somewhere other than the fermentable sugars: the gums and emulsifiers that hold any plant milk in suspension, the fat, or whatever it was poured into. Ruling out a whole category is genuinely useful information. Added ingredients stay the one thing the rating cannot speak for, so a sweetened or fibre-enriched carton still needs the back label read.

Gut-friendly ways to eat macadamia milk

This is the creamiest of the nut milks and the best behaved in coffee, holding together in a hot cup where thinner options separate. Cost is the honest catch, since the nuts are expensive and the cartons follow them. Making your own is easier than with harder nuts, because macadamias blend soft enough to skip straining, though a home version keeps solids that the commercial process removes and the tested figures describe the shop-bought drink. Where protein rather than creaminess is the point, soy milk made from soy protein does more of the work.

Frequently asked questions

Which plant milk should I try if almond and oat milk both upset me?

This is a reasonable next stop, since nothing at all was recorded in the tested cup. Oat milk carries fructans and GOS, almond milk carries GOS, and macadamia milk carries neither. If it also upsets you, the problem is unlikely to be a FODMAP group and is worth chasing among additives, fat or lactose elsewhere in the meal.

How much macadamia milk can I drink in a day?

One cup is the amount that has been measured, and because no group registers at that volume there is nothing sitting in the glass to accumulate as you pour more. That said, only the one serve has been tested, so a litre a day is an extrapolation rather than a finding. A glass with breakfast and a splash in coffee is unremarkable.

Can I drink macadamia milk if nuts usually bother me?

It depends on why they bother you. If GOS is the culprit and a handful of nuts leaves you bloated, a carton is a very different proposition, because most nut solids never reach it. If you have a genuine tree nut allergy, macadamia milk is not an option at all, and hemp milk or rice milk are the ones to look at.

Is macadamia milk OK during the elimination phase?

It suits that phase particularly well, since a full cup was tested and came back with nothing in any of the six groups, so it adds no load to a day you are already counting carefully. Buy one unsweetened carton and stay with it, so that a reaction points at a food rather than at a change of brand.
