Enoki Mushroom (Raw)

TLDRLast updated 27 September 2026

Enoki mushrooms have a low-FODMAP reference of 10 g raw weight in the Monash app. Mannitol becomes moderate at 15 g and high at 75 g. 'Raw' identifies the app's preparation reference: it is not advice to eat enoki uncooked. FSANZ advises thorough cooking because of the risk from Listeria.

Is enoki mushroom (raw) low FODMAP?

The app describes 10 g as two medium enoki, 15 g as four medium and 75 g as one cup. Enoki are often sold in clusters, so use the gram weight instead of treating a whole cluster as one mushroom. Mannitol is the changing FODMAP in the detail panels; the other five groups stay green.

Enoki Mushroom (Raw) and IBS: what to know

Keep FODMAP portion planning separate from food safety. A small green serving still needs proper handling and cooking. When assessing an enoki soup, note the raw amount allocated to your bowl and check the broth ingredients too. The mushroom result alone cannot establish the rating of a packaged soup base or restaurant hotpot.

Gut-friendly ways to eat enoki mushroom (raw)

Check for recalls and do not eat recalled enoki. Keep unrecalled enoki refrigerated and separate from ready-to-eat foods. FSANZ recommends cooking until steaming hot, including boiling for at least two minutes; avoid raw enoki garnishes. Weigh before cooking for this reference, without assuming that cooking creates a larger tested green portion. Shimeji have a separate guide for comparison.

Frequently asked questions

Can I eat a green serving of enoki raw?

No. Follow FSANZ's advice to thoroughly cook enoki; the FODMAP reference does not address bacterial contamination.

Does boiling make a full cup of enoki low FODMAP?

The checked data do not establish that. The raw one-cup reference is 75 g and high in mannitol; there is no verified cooked-weight conversion here.

How do I measure enoki in a shared soup?

Weigh the enoki before cooking and allocate the mushroom amount across the actual portions eaten. Keep the recipe's other ingredients in view, rather than counting only the mushrooms.
